Коллекция Королевской сокровищницы считается наиболее популярной среди туристов в лондонском Тауэре. Свою историю она ведет с семнадцатого века, начало ей было положено во время подготовки церемонии коронации Карла II. Большинство жемчужин коллекции были созданы примерно в 1660 году, в период восстановления символов Британской монархии, утраченных после Гражданской войны (часть символов украдена, а еще часть была переплавлена Оливером Кромвелем). В настоящее время коллекция хранится в Jewel House (часть казармы Ватерлоо на север от Белой башни).

Королевcкий монетный двор Тауэра (англ. Royal Mint at the Tower) находился на территории крепости с 1279 по 1812 год. Корона Британской империи (Crown Jewels)
Корона Британской империи относится к королевским регалиям, ювелирным украшениям, принадлежащим не лично британскому монарху, а государству. Корона представляет собой венец с чередующимися четырьмя крестами и четырьмя геральдическими лилиями, выше которых идут четыре полудуги. Венчает корону шар с крестом. Внутри — бархатная шапка с горностаевой опушкой. Корона выполнена из 2868 алмазов, 273 жемчужин, 17 сапфиров, 11 изумрудов и 5 рубинов.
В корону вставлены драгоценные камни, имеющие историческое значение. В верхний крест короны вставлен сапфир, известный как сапфир св. Эдуарда; в передний крест — рубин Чёрного Принца; ниже рубина на фронтоне установлен алмаз Куллинан-II (Малая Звезда Африки), в тыловую часть обода короны вставлен сапфир Стюартов.
Во время коронации корона Британской империи надевается монархом лишь перед отъездом из Вестминстерского аббатства. В самой процедуре коронации она не участвует, хотя именно эту корону можно отнести к числу самых надеваемых монархами, так как её вес наиболее удобен для длительного ношения. Известны случаи, когда и королева Виктория и Эдуард VII жаловались, что корона святого Эдуарда слишком тяжёлая. Королева Виктория была единственным монархом, которую короновали именно короной Британской империи.
Ежегодно королева открывает сессию Парламента. Существует традиция, по которой корона и другие драгоценности отдельно доставляются в специальной карете в Вестминстерском дворце до отъезда королевы из Букингемского дворца и надеваются ею непосредственно перед процедурой открытия Парламента.
Из-за своего веса (910 г) монарх часто надевает корону в своей частной резиденции, утром в день открытия Парламента, чтобы привыкнуть к весу и чувствовать себя увереннее. По словам одного придворного, он видел, как королева Елизавета II утром, в день открытия Парламента, принимала завтрак, сидя за столом с короной на голове и читая газету.
В настоящее время корона Британской империи находится на постоянной экспозиции Тауэра, кроме времени, когда она используется в процедуре открытия Парламента.
